NAMBIA
One of the driest countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Namibia has been inhabited since the prehistoric era. At the same time, it’s one of the newest nations, having gained independence from South Africa in 1990.
Because much of the terrain is extremely arid, the landscape can feel as if you’re on the surface of Mars – sweeping sand dunes, deep canyons, rocky mountains and steep escarpments, broad savannahs and an extremely rugged Atlantic coastline.
Simply stated, Etosha National Park too my breath away with some of the best and most pristine wildlife viewing in all of Africa – the Kudu, the Oryx, the Gemsnok and the Dik Dik grazing in their natural habitats is incredible to witness.
The majority of the population are Bantu, mostly of Ovambo ethnicity.
Their pride, sense of place in the world, and character were a constant source of inspiration during my time there.
